Professor, Biochemistry
CEO & Founder @ Regenerage Medicine , Mexico
Biography :

Ondarza has had extensive experience in teaching biochemistry and molecular biology to students of Biology and Medicine, in the Faculties of Sciences and Medicine of the UNAM. His experience includes directing research theses and providing formal courses for students in both Master's and Doctor's degree programs. For twelve years, Dr. Ondarza was Advisor and General Coordinator of Science Committees within CONACYT (1971-1982) and created five new research centers in several locations in Mexico dedicated to the fields of Ecology, Biomedical Research, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Marine Biology and Oceanography. These centers are CICESE in Ensenada, B.C.; CIBNOR in La Paz, B.C. Sur; CIES in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas; CIQA in Saltillo, Coahuila; and CICY in Merida, Yucatan. Ondarza has been 'Director of Research' on three separate occasions: The first for a period of seven years (1983-1989) as General Director in the Center of Ecological Research in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. This center is dedicated to studies of the biomedical, socioeconomic and agro-ecological problems of the South East of Mexico. The second activity was in the Foreign Affairs Secretariat of the Government of Mexico, where he acted as General Director of Scientific and Technological Cooperation (1990). Among the various international agreements of collaboration with Europe and Central America, he signed the Agreement between USA and Mexico, in the Campus of the University of California at San Diego in La Jolla. The third experience was as Director of the Center of Research for Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Public Health in Cuernavaca, Morelos, for the three-year period 1990-93. Actually Ondarza's interests are in the biochemistry and molecular biology of human parasites, as well as in cancer cells infected by the Papilloma virus. These studies are all relevant to the concept of the discovery of new compounds which are unique to these parasites and also for the related enzymes that can serve as 'drug targets'. This approach will permit the discovery of specific drugs that do not affect the human host. He has received the following Distinctions. British Council Scholar, Postgraduate studies in Biochemistry, Glasgow University, Scotland, Great Britain, 1953-54. Chairman Professor James N. Davidson. Scholarship from the Organization of The American States (OAS) to study and do research on Streptococcus pneumonia, Downstate Medical Center, New York State University, Brooklyn, USA, 1959. Chairmen, George T. Mills and Evelyn E.B. Smith. Doctor in Biology (Biochemistry) Faculty of Sciences Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, December 1963. Fellow John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, 1963. Dr. Honoris Causa, Republique Francaise, Ministere de l'Education Nationale, Academie de Creteil, Universite Paris Xlll (1984). Visiting Professor in four occasions, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego at La Jolla, California, School of Science and Engineering; during his first sabbatical year, 1964. Chairman Professor David Bonner; during his second sabbatical, 1982, Chairman Professor Andrew Benson; during his third sabbatical, 2002, Chairman Professor William Fenical; during his fourth sabbatical year, 2005, Chairman Professor William Fenical and Visiting Researcher, Department of Chemistry, University of California, San Diego, at La Jolla, 1986. Professor Robert C. Fahey. Carnot Prize, Gold Medal and Diploma, National Academy of Medicine, 1968. Prize of the National Chemical-Pharmaceutical Industry, 1971, Diploma. Member of the Symposia Organizing Comitee, International Union of Biochemistry (IUB), from 1971 to 1976. Homage received as 'Founder of the Course of Molecular Biology' in 1963, by students of the generation 62-65 from the Faculty of Sciences, (Actuary, Biology, Physics and Mathematics), October 21,1993, Aula Magna 1, Faculty of Sciences, UNAM, University City.
